No one fights alone

Orange filled the halls. It filled the classrooms. It filled the chairs, and it filled the hearts.  On Nov. 30, students and faculty of Saegertown High School made it easy to see that no one fights alone.
Matt Myers is a freshman at SHS.  Just weeks before the beginning of the school year, he was diagnosed with leukemia.  SHS students, faculty, and alumni have since shown their support for him in a variety of ways.

Nov. 30 was named ‘Matt Myers Day’ by SHS staff members. The day was dedicated to Myers, as well as all other victims of leukemia, in an attempt to raise awareness for the disease. On this day, orange (official color of leukemia awareness) wristbands reading “no one fights alone” were distributed to all students during their first period class. Orange t-shirts were also sold to benefit the Myers family, and the entire Saegertown community was encouraged to participate in an “orange out” for the day. There was also a blood drive in honor of Myers, which was run by Central Blood Bank.  “A total of 65 products were collected at the blood drive,” said Mrs. Keller, Student Council adviser. “This not only benefits Matt and others in need, but the SHS scholarship fund as well.”

Efforts to support Myers and his family will continue, with donations being collected in each first period class through Dec. 23.
